(Some have heard mine before. Fraser wrote a stunning short story that was based around this memory. :<3 )

Mine comes from around the time I was aged 6-8, and I was walking down the road with my family. My dad told me to go hold my grandfather's hand because he wouldn't be around forever, so I went and held his hand as we walked down the road.

Before that, it's a blur.

What's your earliest memory?

Something similar, walking down the street with mom and dad on my way to grandmother :)
But that had to be around age 4-5, i think.

Oh yeah, when I was five I remember my dad vacuuming the floor with music on the stereo. That music has been in my head since then.
It's a variation of this song:

Probably, looking in the back of a removal van as the workmen loaded up the stuff from our old house to take to our new house. I would have been about 4 at the time.

I have a few memories of what I had been through before the age of three. Most of them had to do with the things that made me cry. Like getting rushed to the ER, and getting my first anti-tetanus shot. :'( Potty training was scary, including having to be washed standing up. I remember preferring being washed in the baby tub outdoors with the sun shining red through my shut eyelids - and blowing the bubbles and suds away!!! But my earliest trauma is unmentionable because it was something that shocked Mom - she didn't think it was possible for me to have recalled it, much less understood it, as I was still a baby. It was only much later that I realized how unusual it was for me to find such things hard to forget. But maybe, I think I feel so deeply, and hurt so much that the memories become indellible because they just keep on repeating themselves in my mind. Actually, now that I've recalled them, I believe I remember more than a few things from very early childhood.

kindergarten. i hated the people at my table for some reason, and wanted to get moved. i thought if i misbehaved, my teacher would put me at a different table. so i started waving my arms and legs around like a crazy person. she told me nicely to stop, and i did. then she continued talking and i started again. etc. she did move me, and afterwards we were coloring pictures of cable cars (yay sf pride!) and the people at my new table made fun of me for not coloring in the lines. the end!

Probably emotionally loaded subject matter ahead.

Spoiler:
My father was put up for adoption by his biological mother when he was about 6 months old. When he was in his 40s, he did some research on her, trying to find her. Eventually he did find her and in March 1991, went to visit her and the rest of his biological family. I was just shy of two years old when this happened.

Two months later, my father, my mother and me traveled to her home in Mississippi. My earliest memories are of this trip. I can only remember brief scenes: our car driving through the rural South on a cloudy afternoon, a scene of our hotel room, my dad's stepfather and I going out to eat at a fast food place called Wards, my cousin Taylor and I in their backyard with pine trees all over the place...it was a very bittersweet time. A mother and son reunion that wouldn't lead to much of a future. His mother who he had only rediscovered several months sooner would past away in September of that year from emphysema.

:ghost My earliest memory is feeling loved and secure, falling asleep with my dad holding me. I didn't have language yet, so the memory comes as a really intense positive emotional impression. It makes sense that my very first memory is of feeling loved, because "I love you" ended up being my first words. I was fully aware of what I meant when I said them.

It's interesting, being Fi-dominant, that my first important memories came from being fully aware of how I was feeling and what I cared about. "Love is good" was probably my first conscious thought, but it wasn't in that form. It was very abstract at the time.

What a range of memories, some bittersweet (Stars), some lovely (snail) and some sad (crystal). Thank you all for sharing, and please keep adding to the thread, those who haven't yet shared.

I remember how I've been sitting in a blue plastic bucket playing with toys.. and then I remember being carried by my mother around the shoreline of Chaikovskiy, Russian city.. According to her I was a little over 1 year old. I remember that I just started talking.. It's probably my earliest memory. I remember also the first day I started walking D: I kid you not, brothers and sisters.. My memory is very selective like that. I remember some things from the way back but sometimes I forget numbers and things I did yesterday, if the day was rather bland. I guess I am safe from schizophrenia, as I remember reading from one of the researches that people who can look back unto the early years of life are less likely to develop the disease.. Also, I've read that most mental disorders become apparent in the early twenties if they've been hiding.. I am getting past that, too. Doesn't mean I have no issues, just not of that kind at least.. Hah, not sure why I moved to a different subject, hope I wasn't confusing.

I have this recollection of being in the crib, no one around.

I just entered my house, and when I saw the TV I thought I could go inside it. I touched it, and was sorely disappointed.

Most people have told me that they think I am lying about this but here is goes...

My first viable memory is from when I was about six months of age. I remember jumping up and down in one of those "jolly jumpers." I told my mom about this a few years back and she said that there was no way that I could recall that. That is when I told her everything about the room in detail right down to color of the jumper (it was red.) She then told me that I was dead on.

The only other one that I am not quite sure about goes back before even that to about (from what I gather) about a week after I was born. That is not impossible as others have had that as well. I recall wearing some sort of bracelet on my left hand which looked very baby like. Again that one I can't really verify though.
