I know, I know, evil topic. Food = temptation.

Anyway, here are two favorites and photos of actual orders:

Lasagna

Fish and chips

*burp*

And a butter cake I decorated that got massacred while I was getting the camera.

So, what do you like to eat? :<3

I've been looking for a Vietnamese food place lately, with no luck X-X (okay, so there is one in the city but my city driving skills are not so high >.>)

I really don't like eating very much.

But I'll eat lots if I have Dolma (Stuffed Vegetables) ^_^.

Technically the picture is of Turkish Dolma, while I eat Armenian Dolma but I personally can tell no difference >.>;...

Thanks, sciski, but I still have lots of room for improvement. ;)

I like oriental cuisine as well. Yesterday, I had a California Maki for lunch, and I always settle for steamed shrimp dumplings dipped in soy when eating at a Chinese resto.

I've never eaten dolma, but that stuffed tomato looks mouth-watering to me! :waggle:

Thai food. I love the cooking philosophy of balancing sweet, sour, salty, spicy in pretty much everything they make. Huge flavours. Anything cooked with even one of the following is okay by me: Basil, coconut, mango, papaya, lemongrass, chili pepper, kaffir lime leaves, cashews, noodles you can read through, and that tofu with the odd crust on the outside that I can never duplicate = mmmmmMMMMMMMM!

I also love to use chopsticks with my non-dominant hand. :P

Anglo-Indian cuisine is one of my absolute favourites, closely followed by Chinese and Italian.

One of my local Indian restaurants does a dish they call "Mararaja Bhuna Special", no pics available but the description on the menu is "Juicy pieces of Tandoori chicken marinated in a clay oven, then the chicken is boned and cooked with chef's special herbs and spices. Fairly hot, with fine minced lamb." It's yummy! :D

I only discovered recently that some foods are considered yin and others, yang. I especially love the Thai hot and sour soup with prawn and how these big flavors are balanced by cilantro and lemongrass (which according to Chinese culinary philosophy are yin ingredients). I love how the sourness of green mango makes my taste buds explode, and brings out the mild milky sweetness in the salty crispy catfish appetizer they have. And don't forget the ginger!

:-D Can't say I can do as much, but I did notice that oriental food tastes very different when eaten with chopsticks. And for that reason alone, it's good to train the non-dominant hand in case of emergency.

Thanks for the introduction to Tandoori cuisine. Is Maharaja Bhuna anything like this recipe? Marinated in yogurt, lemon juice, ginger, coriander and cloves - I can just imagine the gustatory pleasure! And add to that the use of a clay oven - which just like the use of chopsticks adds a little something to the flavors in the meal - maybe the flavors of the ingredients are better preserved.

Happy, happy, thoughts.... 0:)

Hello. My name is Fern and I'm an omnivore.
I'll fess up. What do I like to eat? MEAT!
I've tried being a vegan (no animal products), a lacto-ovo vegetarian, and, for the past 15 years, a vegaquarian (veg + fish). Ethically, I'm a vegan, but physically I'm an omnivore. I was periodically and inexplicably tired, gained weight, depressed, caught every cold that went around, etc. for much of the past 15 years. I've tried meditation, exercise (did a century bike ride and a half marathon), various vitamin and herbal supplements. My doctor tested me for mono, low thyroid, iron deficiency, etc. Friends kept telling me, "I used to feel like that when I was a vegetarian." But I didn't believe that was the cause: I spent a lot of time and effort researching and preparing food to make sure I got what I needed. Finally, with no other ideas to try and frustrated at another week of feeling awful, I tried eating meat again. That was last August. I've lost 15 pounds, feel terrific, haven't been depressed or had a cold. The most noticable difference is how satisfied I am with less food. Satiety. What a concept! I also lost my sweet tooth and have cut out sugar and refined carbs, most grains. I get my carbs from fruit, root vegetables, beans.
I eat free range, hormone free chicken and grass fed beef, also lamb and venison harvested by a friend of mine.

I tried it too and got rushed to the hospital at one point. Doctors put me on a red meat diet for days. :headsmack: I also noticed that the more lean meat or seafoods I eat, the more pounds I lose.

Hopefully there'll be viable, affordable protein alternatives for the likes of us "vegans at heart" at some point. For now, I'm sticking to fish and seafood and veggies. But I'll eat other kinds of meat if there's no fish available. I'm not ready to die at this point just because I don't want to eat red meat.

Which reminds me, I must add that I like yogurt, milk and cheese.

I'm a total omnivore at present, but next year when I'm all grown up and in university, I want to stop eating mammals. I feel we love our fellow mammals in a higher way than we love our birds and insects and such-- I just wish there was a term for this sort of eating pattern. Oh well.

I support your diet, Fern! I myself have been vegetarian for two years (though I occasionally eat some fish when I eat at home) but I wonder from reading your post if I shouldn't work some more fish into my diet, as I have been feeling a little moody and lacking in energy for QUITE a while. I don't know whether it's my natural state or not! I should proooobably exercise as well, but it really is hard for me to find the time. School keeps me so busy! (I wouldn't have a clue how to cook fish, though...vegetarian meals are so much easier to cook!)

As for foods I loooove...INDIAN THAI and AUTHENTIC CHINESE CUISINE make me happy. I had the BEST meal ever last week when I visited Chinatown in Chicago-tofu and eggplant with rice. I think the spice was Szechwan or something. It was the most succulent f**king eggplant I've ever had. It sort of makes me want to curse a lot in order to properly communicate its amazing flavors and textures.

i have no ethical issues eating meat but i have become a de facto vegetarian since i started cooking for myself since i hate preparing meat :-D

if you want more fish though, a really easy way is to have a tuna sandwich once a week... or go out for sushi! yay! hehe

I like my food: Now
What do I like to eat? Healthy things. Or rather, healthier things than I used to eat.

And this reminds me of a story. I've decided recently to drink less milk and that when I do drink it, it has to be nonfat. So I see this commercial that says "did you know that there's as much saturated fat in one glass of 2% milk as there is in an entire box of french fries?" I think to myself "Yeah, that sounds true." And then they advertise Smart Balance milk. Completely nonfat but with a creamy texture created by Omega-3 supplements (I'm big on my Omega-3s) so it still tastes like regular 2%. I decide I need to get some of this. Then I go on their website and realize they only carry Smart Balance in states east of the Mississippi River, meaning where I don't live! AGH! :headsmack: Time for a new plan.

Fern, I hope you're at peace with your new diet. It's hard being a vegetarian if you have meat cravings. One can feel quite guilty if animal rights are part of your stance. Whatever attempts I've made haven't lasted as long as I'd hoped. My new goal is approximately 1x meat per week. I'm only human.

tehBelle: basically I sound like you. I'll eat meat when I'm out, I find it's faster, more pleasant, and more fun to experiment without meat at home.

I wouldn't say I had "meat cravings." I didn't miss it in the sense of thinking, "Oh, I'd love to have a hamburger." Rather there is apparently some trace nutrient -- perhaps an amino acid -- that my body either can't absorb or can't synthesize in sufficient quantities from a vegetarian diet. So yeah, of course I'm "at peace" with it -- I think it's reasonable to eat for health. I choose meat that is grown and killed humanely.

I like...food. Mostly. Non-food isn't to my taste.

Although I respect vegetarian/vegan diets (my sister is a vegan), I'm not sure I'll every follow that path to the letter, so to speak. I've been cutting back on my meat intake, and I rarely ever prepare meat dishes other than chicken (don't like seafood much -although, strangely, sushi is OK, and I just don't like dealing with beef or pork). When I"m out, or invited to dinners, I'll usually eat whatever the host provides; somebody recently gave me veal, which I never eat. It wasn't very tasty either, so I feel no desire to eat it again.

I actually prefer the taste of most vegetarian dishes to meat dishes anyway, with some exceptions. BBQ, for example, is..well...damn good. I miss southern BBQ.

Cool, I hear you about free range, and also about wishing there was a name for people who just ate less meat. I see much of the current generation opting for a lifestyle that's right down the middle between omnivore and herbivore -- of course, it could be argued that these folks are still omnivores.

I've wondered sometimes about adopting a more vegetarian-esque diet, for various reasons, but when I think about it I don't really eat all that much red meat anyway, and more problematically I hate pretty much every vegetable under the sun, I don't really have much of a taste for fruit, and I don't really like seafood, except maybe shrimp and cod (but only if it's battered).

I really need to expend my diet.
