Now you can quickly thank a member for a particular post.

To do this, look for the little 'thumbs up' icon on the post you like. It should be near the quote button. Click it and you've thanked the person. :)

All the thanks a user receives will be tallied and displayed beneath their avatar.

If you'd like to be notified when someone has thanked you for a post, you can set this up in your User Control Panel.
- Click on the User Control Panel link
- Click the Board Preferences link
- You will see a list of settings. Make sure that you have selected 'yes' for the following setting: "Notify me if someone thanks my post.:You will receive a PM if someone says thank you for any of your posts."
- Click the 'submit' button at the bottom to save your changes.

Please note that you cannot thank yourself (not that I tried or anything...) :grouch:
Also, you cannot currently type a short message with your thanks. It's mainly a tally for the benefit of the poster.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Thanks for the thanks. :-D

I've just discovered that the notification message is a PM that says "Thanks for the message". So you will know who sent you a thanks, but not specifically for which post. Oh well, nice to be thanked anyway!

Gotta admit I'm not a fan of points-based rep systems, they always seem to cause far more trouble than they're worth. =/

We'll see how well it goes... I have a feeling that it's just a nice novelty for the moment. More functionality would make it more useful, but as it is, it's pretty low-key.

Slight modification to the thanks mod--you can now delete your thanks ( ), and the specific post you thanked will include a note saying you thanked it.

As with all forum features, please only use it if you feel comfortable with it. :)

Umm, is this a feature that you gain when you pass a certain postcount? Because all I see next to the quote button is the RTM button.

sciski nuked it a couple of weeks back to help encourage more actual posting.

Thanks DC (may I call you DC? because I just did). Sounds like a valid reason. I spend too much time on Facebook and see the Like button as an excuse not to post something worthwhile.

Now I want to bring back the Thanks button just to Thank you for phrasing it like that. :-D
