One of my friends recently recommended me this movie as a masterpiece of cinematography and ultimately friendly, kind and inspirational film... Julie and Julia it's' called. .
I tried to watch it.. I took me 5 times to finish it. There were moments when I felt sick.. Like this whole fascination with FOOD. Those women are insane, I thought. . I understand that a tasty meal that required some invested time is great, but to the point of dreaming about food, making your life into making/tasting food. There are just things much more important to spend time doing like reading, introspecting, making love, being outside, talking to pets, etc, besides eating and cooking! At least drinking and smoking! (:
The word that comes to my mind is gluttony! Food not for survival and necessity but mainly to satisfy the sensory cravings..
But the movie is in fact very kind, very sweet... so sweet.... I started having toothache very fast. I could heal it only by drinking horrible beer I decided to experiment with during the last and final try of finishing the movie.
I don't know. I didn't find it life-changing, my heart wasn't overflown with a fuzzy feeling.
Ha, don't get me wrong.. I am a good cook. And the movie seemed to a be at least a little educational.

So, anyone else found this one inspirational? . . I am just a horribly bitter person these days, the film should be swell, it has freaking Meryl Streep in it, besides the fact that there she is a bubbly glutton.

I like the phrase 'bubbly glutton'. :)

I haven't watched it, but after reading your review, don't think I will...

Yup - watched it. Found it inspirational as I see myself in Julia's shoes as an aspiring writer hoping to have her first book published. And I like Julia Child's character because her quirky ENTPness explodes on-screen. :PP

My mom loved it and my ex-girlfriend loved it too. I am in minority... But I have issues with food, love and hate type of a relationship many bulimics face. At least give a try! (:
