Snaaaacks... snaaaacks... I hunger..
I'm overweight, and need to cut down on the snacks. Perhaps someone here has some tips? What are some "healthy" snacks you can eat when you got the cravings for the sweet? (and by "healthy" I don't mean healthy!, but less damaging then, say, milk chocolate.)
My personal favorite are fiber-rich cereals combined with strawberry-flavored sour milk (which supposedly is good for your tummy). And raisins ofcourse.

Raisins, while delicious, are high in calories plus they cause cavities since they are sticky and sweet. You'd be better off with the grapes the raisins were before all their sugar was concentrated.
I'd say stock up on anything you like the taste of that is high in fiber (fresh fruit and veggies, whole grain crackers/bread). Fiber makes you feel full faster so it's a great way to reduce.
Also, drink lots of water.
Good luck!

Oh, and a great dip to make those veggies more palatable and sweeter: 2 parts Red currant jelly plus 1 part dijon mustard, blend until smooth. We make this stuff in quantity.

Just a couple of thoughts - my sister found that if she craved chocolate she wasn't eating enough protein. I've found this to be true for me also. Another thing: make sure you aren't dehydrated. Dehydration can manifest as hunger.

Try cutting your carbs as well... if you drink sweet drinks (including fruit juices), replace them with water. Eat less bread, pasta, you know, all the delicious foods that make life worth living!

my personal downfall is generally salty snacks, so i dunno how helpful this will be for you... but i like carrots and hummus/salsa or celery and salsa/peanut butter. also popcorn is great, in that its relatively low cal, but you can eat a TON.
for sweeter stuff, i usually go in for the sugar free jello or a dark chocolate bar. i also like to put yogurt in the freezer in the morning so when i come home i can have "frozen yogurt". great for ice cream cravings. i also like eating frozen blueberries, cause they're a lot cheaper than fresh lol.
as mentioned, i would definately recommend NOT drinking fruit juices, as most of the nutrition is destroyed by the processing and all you really get is sugar.
i've been trying seriously to reform my eating habits for awhile now... on the plus side i've added a lot more fruit to my diet. i've made slightly less headway on the veggies (its an on and off thing) and have mostly cut out the worst of my old habits. but i still get cravings for cheeseburgers and pizza every once and awhile. they best thing to do is just not buy the junk food. its a lot easier to control yourself in the grocery store than it is in your house.
breaking old habits is hard. good luck!

You probably have it in your country to, here in Norway the brand is known as Biola. It taste a bit like yoghurt, but the consistency is very liquid, like milk, and it contains healthy bacteria. Good for your tummy.

i love sorbet. it has a less calories than ice cream and no dairy. there're some pretty good flavors out there. raspberry, mango, lychee, and cabernet are my favorites.
if you like salty, the seaweed they sell for sushi can be tasty if you find the right one. they have like no calories. i thought i was being a wierd infp as usual for snacking on it but yesterday i saw that trader joe's, a big chain supermarket, has started carrying seaweed snacks next to the potato chips. it's exactly the same thing as sushi roll seaweed.
here's some pretty terrible advice but it works for me. counting calories works. if you limit yourself to <1500 kcal a day, it doesn't matter if it's all fat and sugar, you'll still lose weight. nutrition crashes and burns of course. i drink emergen-c and take multivitamins. i know that's not as good real vitamins from real food so i try to eat spinach salads once in awhile.

I don't have any suggestions for snacks but I find it helpful when I separate snacks into smaller bags before hand, so I keep track of how much I'm eating and limit myself to a single serving.

I cut cravings with a big old glass of wheat grass juice. it doesn't exactly taste "good" but it doesn't taste bad either. and it really does help kill the hunger.

Well, good for you, but I think it tastes awful. I can only take wheat grass juice with a teaspoon of sugar which makes it only semi-healthy for me. But I just remembered honey! Pure honey is a good substitute for white sugar - if you're not allergic to it. I like spreading it on bread as a snack. It's gonna be wheat grass with pure honey for me from now on.

Honey is about 60 calories a table spoon so just keep that in mind when you add it. Green Tea also seems to cut down on hunger for me I do take that with honey typically.

Do you keep honeybees or just the regular waspish variety for scientific purposes? And yes, honey is about that many calories per tablespoon - exactically right. Jasmine or chamomile tea with honey rocks as an afternoon snack. Also, I've been reading that margarine is not an acceptable substitute for butter. Low fat butter is a better substitute. The good fats in butter boost the break down of the bad fats. And is it true that margarine is one molecular substructure away from becoming plastic? Some find salmon, tuna, sardines and shrimp cocktails satiating snacks - they have the good fats that help break down the bad fats. I like sardines on brown bread (yes, I am no longer allergic to brown bread-yay!).

One thing I will always eat for a snack is Triscuits topped with a little bit of shredded mozzarella cheese and a little bit of onion. Then I'll wash it down with fruit juice.

Fruit smoothies. Blend a bunch ice with soymilk, a banana, half of an avocado, and whatever berries you want to add. If it's not sweet enough, add orange juice or organic blue agave nectar. If it's not creamy enough, increase the avocado. I managed to live off of these for a few months because I was helping a somewhat demanding stroke-sufferer get better, and I didn't have time to sit down for actual meals. During that time, I didn't gain any weight. They're great if you can afford all of that fruit.
