Today I got an email from myself that I wrote a year ago to 'Future Me'. You too can email things to your future selves!

FutureMe.org

It's fun, trust me ^^

I know a girl who's just started writing blog posts and twitter updates from twenty years in the future. She is/will be exploring a planet in another solar system.

You know, that sounds pretty damn awesome.

I've been thinking about sending one, but I don't know about doing another... that is to say, I can send one a year in advance, but I don't think it would have quite the same impact as if I were to do one for, say... 10 years. I spent quite a while looking back before I decided to look forward, and you can bet your britches my future self will also be a hopeless nostalgic.

Thanks for the link! I wish I were able to read some from the book they wrote without having to buy it. Did it come as a surprise?

Send multiple messages!

I sent one for five years at the same time as the year one I think.

It was a bit of a surprise, I totally forgot all about it :D

I'm still waiting for my email from me, carried by a real snail. :)

Hmm, I've just discovered that the group of snails carrying my original email has been retired. :headsmack:

So I'll just use this email myself in a year biznes. :D

Well that was fun! I've just sent one to arrive on my birthday next year. I'll have to sit down and have a good long think about what I want to write if I'm going to send one much further than that though.

I don't like this. What if I want to write a reply back to Past Me? He'll be sitting there all smugly oblivious to my retort.

Edit: Actually I would really love to send a letter back in time to my past self. It would read,

"Hey asshole, be grateful for what you have because you'll regret it when it's gone. Stop being a coward and go take some risks. That includes being rejected by girls. Trust me, it's better than turning into a pathetic, self hating loser. Stay away from psychiatrists. If you ignore my advice, you'll soon understand why I address you as asshole. Good luck not wrecking our life."

Harsh. :(

I know how you feel, though. There are plenty of things that I've done that I'd like to go back to and just take myself aside for a few quiet words, but I was who I was, and I was doing the best I could at the time, you know? And if anybody's going to forgive me, it should be me, right? I've learned that sometimes you just have to forgive yourself and promise yourself that you'll do better next time.

And your future self will also be oblivious to any of it's future-selves' comments. Thus, nothing seems to be the trouble here since it's all fair

I'd forgotten all about this until I chanced across it the other week when I was browsing through some of the older threads, and now I can't get it out of my head!

It would have been a really nice surprise too. :(
