I know it would help me to see the date of the original post in the same space with the original poster's name. Conversations can go on a long time, and seeing that it started a while ago would be a thumbs up that the subject may have morphed a bit.
Just a thought,
Gin

Thanks Gin, I'll poke around the controls and see if this can be done!

I don't think this option is available to us. :(

Once the thread is open the first post is dated properly - I was hoping there was some way that that date could be shown in the thread lists without having to open the thread.

Another thing I wish this forum had was available mouse-over and you could read the first few lines of the first post in a thread without having to open it. I use this feature a lot on forums that provide it. Hoping...

^ Yes, that's a very useful feature. I will investigate.

Yes, it would be nice to have the starting date on the thread list. Too bad it isn't available...

Just don't make this forum too good, or people will start flocking, and it won't be the quiet little nook that it is now.

Sorry to sort of butt in here, but that's starting to get me worried. Should we make more of the boards accessible to members only to keep the place quieter and our private thoughts harder to read by strangers? Just an idea; I understand perfectly if that's against your intentions.

Strangely enough, the idea of strangers reading my posts doesn't really bother me. I just don't want to become an obscure, "one among thousands" member, if you know what I mean.

The blog board, the rants and vents board and the RIP board are the ones that are currently only viewable by members (plus there's the Mod Box section that none of you lesser mortals get to see :P ), are there any other boards or threads in particular you're concerned about and would like to see restricted?

(I must admit I wonder sometimes whether it's a good idea to have the members' photos thread viewable by non-members, but then I've only got the one pic on there so it doesn't bother me overly much).

I'm sorry, but who are you again? ;)

I'm glad you shared this idea. I didn't want to be the first one to say it. I wish the showcase and photos thread were visible only to members - I don't like the idea of Google bots stealing all that stuff and keeping them in the Google cache. Bad bots! Bad bots!

We can always move the photos thread to a more private forum.

Actually, we could make a completely-purely-driven-by-privacy forum and call it "Private parts".

Gin--I don't think the hover-to-find-initial-text function is available here..

"Private parts!" :-D What creative board names have we!
But yes, as Crystaluniverse said, I think the Showcase should be private. I've written a satire on personality typing that I would have liked to share, but since I'm considering submitting it to a literary magazine sometime, I can't post it on a public forum.

I'll see what I can do later tonight. :)

Though PTP, if you're going to submit your work for publishing, maybe it's better not to post it at all? After all, anyone can log in and see it.. not that I know much about copyright/publishing.

Chances are that won't happen, because the topic itself (personality typing) is relatively obscure, and then you take it down another notch of obscurity by focusing on a very specific type - INFP; although of course other types are obviously welcome, it still puts a particular theme onto the forum that might dissuade some from joining. I'm not saying dissuading some from joining is either a good or bad thing.

GC never became huge - at least not what I would consider so - but, then again, I hadn't visited it for quite a while before it went kaput so I"m not sure what the status was at the end. It had a small core of very active people, a slightly larger group of mostly-regulars, and a whole bunch of hit-and-run posters - which I imagine is typical of most boards.

I like the idea of making some of the more personal realms of INFPverse members only. I would actually say most of it should be members only, which results in keeping snooping nogoodnicks from reading our drivel, as well as potentially inspiring those who find the topic interesting to join up, rather than lurk.

I've heard protecting writing with a password does alleviate the "published" tag, unless this is just a myth. Submitting something to the web with open access is considered "published" and then trying to sell that piece to a publisher , and if the publisher finds out it's already out there for free then, I suppose, that's a turn off for publishers. Putting it in a password safe site where only select people have access keeps it from being published due to the fact that only select people have access to the work, but I'm not sure if that extends to something like a message board where many people who you may or may not want to have access to it can still read it...

Yeah, probably best not to post stuff you hope to sell one day, unless you have a private blog or something and only invite people you want to read.

You could always PM it to some members who you really trust and want to share it with, PTP.

I've moved the photo thread to the newly private INFPverse Community section. :)
