What's the most fantastic thing about being an INFP, and what is hardest? As an optional extra question, what are you working on in terms of personal development?

Commentary from other types is welcome (just state your type so that people don't get confused :)).

I'm either an INFP with INFJ tendencies (by which I mean I use lots of Ni), or an INFJ with INFP tendencies (by which I mean I use lots of Fi).

Best thing: Being able to adapt to situations by switching my perspective, and thus being able to use pragmatism as a sort of tool. The thing I most appreciate about myself is that I don't deny reality and thus have coping mechanisms that others are able to tap. I also like my enquiring mind.

Worst thing: I sometimes feel as if I lack the vitality that Se-types possess... that single minded pursuit of a goal. Unfortunately, perspective-switching will kill off my goals so quickly, because ultimately, most material goals are pointless to me... but that tends to leave me feeling purposeless in terms of material accomplishments, and thus inadequate.

Working on: Trying to push myself out of my own bubble, to keep experiencing life, to "live deliberately, to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life. To put to rout all that is not life." For me, moving to Hong Kong has been one of those steps, though I am still fighting my tendency to build a cocoon against all the Se-ness of life here.

INFP, almost certain. Perhaps I'm one of those Ne-orientated Fi-doms, more carefree.

These are the best and worst, and not all the other qualities that define my personality.

Best thing:
What if's and maybes. It does not take much effort trying to imagine what other's might feel like, and how other's might experience a situation and what their motivations are.
This sometimes fail me, I might imagine that people have experiences that they don't really have, but at least the ability to try to understand gain me lot of sympathy towards others.

Worst thing:
Being misunderstood. I hate making definite judgements about the outer world, because, well, I might be wrong. I'm also not that talkative in certain social situations.
This make other people have a hard time understanding me, so people tend to fill in the blanks themselves. It makes different people have very different, sometime opposite, view on me.
On what I'm good at, my weaknesses, wheter I like people or not and what have you.

Working on:
To relax and put my self out there. It is not the end of the world if I said something wrong or incorrect, or was a little bit insensitive in a phrasing.
I'm only a person and have to forgive myself and my wrongdoings as much as I forgive others, so to say. I also need to talk more, express my observations.
Reassure people that I like them, because I do, I just don't express it that often. Learning that being misunderstood is more of a fault then an excuse.

Do you know your enneagram type? Type 9 and type 2 are supposed to be amongst the more common types for INFPs, and both of those tend to be a bit less "angsty" than us type 4s.

Best thing, I am who I am and not something else, thus my experiences are varied but I know that I don't live anyone else's life. Talking about having a personality in general, no matter how abstractly it's classified..
The worst thing about who I am, it's that I am not always happy with it.

I am very unsure of my enneagram type. I tend to vary betwen 2, 4, 6 and 9, depending on mood. Bah, that system is for me confusing.

Best thing: Ever since I can remember I've loved the hero of any story, the ones that want to help everyone just because they're the ones who know they can, and they see a problem, and to be able to do it out of the pure kindness of their heart, they don't want anything in return, they just want to help everyone. I've always admired those characters and have indeed inspired me, and I aspire to be just like them. That's my favorite part about being an INFP, being able to want to do something that grand and amazing naturally.

Worst thing: The worst thing would definitely be the uncertainty. There are times where all I can think about are what ifs and possibilities. Its hard for me to keep faith in hard times, because no matter how sure I am I can do something, I can intuitively sense a situation where I don't get what I want. Luckily I always seem to pull through, but when its happening I can go as far as having straight up anxiety attacks and will probably break out in tears suddenly.

Working on: I'm working on guiding my life towards my "cause". So far I have been incredibly unclear about what I wanted to do with my life and how to do it, but recently I believe I've discovered it, and I'm talking to school counselors about schools and classes to get me there. I'm also working on understanding all of the MBTI types and how they interact with each other.

Best thing: Having multiple talents and options / Having a great instinct.

Worst thing: Not being able to deal with all the options / Feeling inadequate. I actually relate to your worst thing sciski: lacking "that single minded pursuit of a goal. Unfortunately, perspective-switching will kill off my goals so quickly, because ultimately, most material goals are pointless to me... but that tends to leave me feeling purposeless in terms of material accomplishments, and thus inadequate."

Working on: trying to figure me out so that I can find a long term money source - business or job that also keeps me fulfilled

Best thing: effortless empathy.

Worst thing: vulnerability.

Well, this is what I'm experiencing right now. Might change later.
