Hello >_>

I've decided that my one true path in life is to become a knight. A modern day knight of course!

I always bemoan the fact that I wasn't born in a time where becoming a knight was possible. There are other barriers too, like being female. But, I realised the other day that it shouldn't stop my dream!

I can become a knight! Maybe not legally in the eyes of the country until I earn the right, but I can at least live my live as a knight and follow in their footsteps, shaping what it means to be a modern knight, fighting for justice and serving the people. My sword may be a metaphor (Or not, as I ill take up fencing as a sport) and my trusty steed may be a bicycle, but I know I can become a knight

Course, I need to get fit first, and now my exercise routine has become training for my chosen profession. I'm going to come up with a coat of arms and a code of honour to live by and then begin my holy crusade against tyranny.

I intend to keep studying as well, of course. Knights were creative and philosophical souls that added much to their culture and society. I cannot help the world until I know and understand it.

I'm not following a religious agenda either. I shall become a knight of the Earth!

Any tips? Advice? Am I crazy?

I first read that as "a code of humour".

You should watch the movie "Ghost Dog". It might give you some tips on how to relate an ancient code into modern times. OK, so Ghost Dog is actually an assassin and follows a Samurai code, but, you know, close. Now that I think about it, it might just give you tips on how to kill people. I can't imagine that's your intention, so maybe you shouldn't watch the movie. Quit asking.

Geez.

I know that I might be taking it too seriously now, BUT I do remember I once met somebody who happened to be in a club dedicated to the middle ages. He also did some sort of sword fight (With wood, though ... But believe me that can hurt as well!). When I said I wanted to learn that way of fighting, too, I had the chance to try it, and got some tips. A few days later, I met the other members of the club, and one of them was some sort of "female knight". I don*t know how she got the title anymore, but she really great at sword fights :D.

However, I sort of didn*t feel that we could relate in any sort, which made me quit, even before joining. And I am very sure the club still exists. They also sometimes traveled to Norway (? -- I think it was Norway), for the crispbread war. ^^ The latter was the name of the fight; they just needed something to fight about - "Which side is better to be buttered concerning a crispbread?" was the question asked ...

^_^

Fencing does look fun. I'd probably end up re-enacting various scenes from The Princess Bride though.

To be a knight you need a horse.. A horse and a full mail/chain armor were separating in the medieval times knights from footmen, besides the remotely noble birth, which was also a requirement, or at least a granted knighthood from a king. These days I guess you can substitute a horse with a car, and a chain mail armor with a Kevlar vest, a sword with a gun. But man, we are talking some serious business now.
Besides that every single knight should have a lady that would inspire and result in all the different quests. A knight should know a couple of languages, be able to write poetry and dance.
Also, a part of knighthood is a servitude to a lord, a part of the chivalry. A freelance knight is a mercenary or a traveling hero from fairy tales..
Good luck to you, oh noble Light Speed. Godspeed you!

I just watched the old Liz Taylor Ivanhoe movie for the first time. Based on that movie alone, I do agree that every single knight should have a "lady" to inspire his quests. In the old days, fair and virtuous ladies embodied the ideals that knights lived to uphold. A princess may embody a kingdom, for which a knight may fight for.

Yes you are crazy...like a fox! I think that it is great and more people should be like you! Earth needs them.

I would suggest for your exerscize routien throw in a bit of...sword fighting! I am acutally doing that and have lost about ten pounds. Go to the library and get the books and look it up. It's awesome and keeps you in shape.

Let me know how it goes and I might join you!
