I was looking at people's enneagram and MBTI and it seems that a lot of INFPs also share the 4w5. It's not a rule by any means but an interesting coincidence? 4w5 does seem to be a cool one to have, haha. A very individualistic, hard to pin point, with a lot of depth, blah blah.. However, anyone with some degree of self-worth would apply such description to oneself. What 4w5 is all about? I read the Enneagram Institute article, of course, that seems to have an awesome description of all the types. But the definition seems to be pretty broad.. As well as other definitions they have, too.
How you got to identify yourself with this enneagram type? And what are the specific things that you think make this type applicable to an individual in your opinion? I would like to hear any general rant/discussion on this matter.
I also started to doubt my 4w5, I mean, we can't all have it.. My next highest score is for the type 2, which does make a great sense to me but it's almost shameful to have and tell about. Yeah, I am driven by love and affection, yeah, it's the only thing that seems to be worth in life. But who wants to expose like that?..

Of course you may have 4w5 if you want. ;) Lots of INFPs (and INFJs) test as 4w5.

I can't say much more about being a 4, as I'm not a 4 myself. Sigh.

Have you found out your instinctual variant (whether you're Social, Self-preservational or Sexual)? More information here: http://www.eclecticenergies.com/enneagram/variants.php
This helps provide even more differentiation between types. :)

I know this is an old post but hopefully this will be of use to the OP.

I've known about Enneagram and MBTI since my mid teens. My father was heavily into it. I've always thought I was a 4w5 based a lot on the fact that my father is a 5w4 (INTP). There are a lot of similarities between our two personalities. My impression of it is that it tends towards more introversion and less awareness of how we come across physically. I am very very introverted. I am just starting to care more about my looks and clothes and I am 33. I still forget to brush my long hair before I go out sometimes!

I think I started caring at 28, and then keep forgetting to care. :)

And brushing hair only occurs to me when it's especially insane... luckily I have thick, straight Asian hair, so that limits the amount of insanity of which it is capable.

I started caring when I got rather heavy. Wearing the loose, baggy clothing I preferred made me feel worse about myself. I still like my clothes to be comfy, but I can find things that look better. I have thick, wavy hair, so even if I do brush it, you can't always tell! I just started figuring out how to work *with* it and not against it about a year ago. I also only have the nails on my left hand painted right now because I can't figure out if I like the color or not...I will have to change that before I go in to work this weekend, lol.

luckily (or unluckily, depending on my mood :P) my hair is so thick an wavy that it makes absolutely no difference whether or not i brush it... it looks crazy no matter what

as to the OP, with the enneagram moreso than the mbti (though this happens with the mbti as well to a degree) i've noticed that depending on my mood and general outlook on life my score changes a lot. i think it tracks how you view yourself (or how you want to view yourself) at the time of test taking rather than some immutable quality within you. when i was a somewhat angsty teenager, i scored 4 a lot. when i found myself in the grip of an anxiety disorder i scored 6. i haven't taken a test in awhile, so i have no idea what my current score would be... but honestly i wouldn't worry about caring what other people think... everyone does to a degree... if we didn't we wouldn't be able to live in society at all. i think whats important is to be aware of your own needs and find a way to balance them with your needs for affection from others so that you don't become a slave to the opinions of others or be so independent that you become isolated.
